Himachal Pradesh CM Ensures Continued Industrial Growth with Cheaper Power Supply and Policy Support

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to fostering industrial growth through industry-friendly policies and affordable power rates. In a statement released today, the CM emphasized that the state government has rationalized electricity subsidies without compromising the cost advantage enjoyed by industries in the region. Himachal Pradesh continues to offer electricity at rates cheaper than neighboring states like Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, with large industries receiving power at a rate more than one rupee per unit less.

For industries with supply voltages ranging from 33 KV to 220 KV, of which there are 159 in the state, Himachal offers a substantial cost benefit. Similarly, for the 2011 industries that operate with supply voltages of 11 KV to 22 KV, the price advantage also exceeds one rupee per unit compared to neighboring states. To further support these industries, the state government has reduced electricity duty from 16.5% to 10%, ensuring that businesses can continue to thrive without being burdened by increased energy costs.

Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted that the state remains dedicated to the growth of its 31,298 small and medium industries, whose subsidies and energy charges have been left unchanged. This initiative reflects the government’s focus on supporting local employment and economic development, with many of these industries providing direct and indirect job opportunities for the youth of Himachal Pradesh.

The rationalization of electricity subsidies, according to CM Sukhu, will not adversely affect the state’s industrial sector. Instead, it positions Himachal Pradesh as an attractive destination for investment, offering a competitive edge over neighboring states. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the industries for their contribution to the state’s economy and vowed continued government support to ensure their growth and sustainability.
