Himachal Pradesh Government Committed to Employment Opportunities, Clears Misconceptions on Job Post Changes

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing employment for the state’s youth, addressing recent social media misinformation suggesting the removal of certain job posts. The Chief Minister clarified that no posts are being eliminated; rather, roles that have been unfilled or outdated for years are being updated to align with current needs. For instance, several Clerk Typist positions are being reclassified as Junior Office Assistant (IT) positions, catering to modern administrative requirements. The Finance Department issued a formal directive to this effect on October 23, 2024, ensuring that these updates are clearly communicated across departments.

Chief Minister Sukhu explained that the government is actively creating new roles to replace outdated or vacant positions and streamline financial planning. By removing outdated roles, such as the Gestetner Operator, the Finance Department aims to reduce budgetary confusion and promote financial efficiency. So far, the state government has introduced 2,511 new posts across various departments and is in the process of filling 16,592 more, bringing the total number of jobs being filled to 19,103.

Key departments receiving new roles include Education, with 268 positions created; Health and Family Welfare, with 1,623; Home, with 442; Jal Shakti, with 85; Public Works, with 64; and Revenue, with 29. Additionally, thousands of positions are actively being filled, including 5,861 in Education, 1,056 in Health, 1,482 in Home, 2,266 in Forests, 4,701 in Jal Shakti, 299 in Public Works, and 927 in Revenue.

The Chief Minister highlighted that updating job titles and creating new roles is an ongoing departmental process to keep up with evolving job demands. Since the government took office 22 months ago, it has consistently created new posts, declared pending examination results, and facilitated appointments for young applicants, underscoring its dedication to youth employment.

Looking ahead, the government plans to create more jobs based on future demands and has initiated new courses in educational institutions to equip youth for employment in emerging sectors like AI, Data Science, and the Internet of Things. In line with the state’s overall development goals, new job opportunities will continue to grow as innovative areas are explored and developed. The Chief Minister reiterated that youth play a crucial role in the state’s progress, and the government is steadfast in prioritizing their welfare and future.
