Himachal Pradesh High Court Issues Notice to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in Defamation Case
The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in a defamation case filed by former Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma. The Additional Registrar of the High Court has directed Sukhu to respond to the defamation suit filed by Sharma, who has claimed damages of ₹5 crore for alleged defamation by the Chief Minister.
Sharma has accused Sukhu of repeatedly casting aspersions on him through his speeches, making derogatory remarks, and causing him harm to his reputation. According to Sharma’s petition, Sukhu had made false allegations against him, including that he was involved in a ₹15 crore scam, but failed to produce any evidence to support these claims. The Chief Minister’s statements were published and broadcasted in newspapers, television channels, and social media, causing harm to Sharma’s reputation, prestige, and dignity.
Sharma has demanded an apology and compensation of ₹5 crore from Sukhu for the alleged defamation. The case is now pending before the High Court, and Sukhu has been directed to respond to the notice and defend himself against the allegations.
