Himachal to Revamp Transport: 350 Bus Drivers Recruitment Resumes and Fleet Expansion Planned

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri chaired the 156th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) and announced significant developments. The HRTC will soon resume the stalled recruitment process for 350 bus drivers and fill 600 vacant driver posts. To modernize its fleet, the corporation plans to purchase 250 new diesel buses and 50 tempo travelers, costing around Rs 105 crore. Additionally, 24 new super luxury buses and 50 tempo travelers will be inducted this year. The HRTC is also set to acquire electric buses worth Rs 25 crore and has initiated the purchase process for Type-1 and Type-3 electric buses. Agnihotri emphasized the corporation’s commitment to enhancing services, particularly in remote areas, and promoting cashless transactions by incentivizing conductors. The meeting also discussed forming a resource mobilization committee to address financial losses and the prompt payment of pending medical reimbursement bills amounting to Rs 55.36 lakh. Annual medical check-ups for all employees were also decided to ensure better health.
