Himachal and UK discuss ways to promote trade and investment

British Deputy High Commission (BDHC) based at Chandigarh Caroline Rowett met Industries, Ayush and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan during her visit to Shimla. They discussed ways to promote trade and investment between the UK and Himachal Pradesh.

Key points:

• The focus would be on the Handloom industry.
• The BDHC will support the state government in taking a trade delegation to the United Kingdom (UK).
• The state government would expedite the land allotment to RR Agro Ltd, based in Kullu.
• The state is open to foreign investments in the liquor/wine sector.
• The possibility of doing an event/fashion show in collaboration with BDHC Chandigarh on the sidelines of the England vs India Test match in Dharamshala next year in March will be explored.

The meeting was fruitful as it would open avenues for investment in Himachal Pradesh and would also lead to revenue generation and employment for bonafide Himachali people.MLA Vinay Kumar, the delegation of Officer from UK Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission and Senior Inward Investment Adviser, Rajinder S Nagarkoti, Political, Press and Projects Adviser, Praneet Verma, Trade & Investment Adviser and Director Industries, Rakesh Kumar Prajapati were also present on the occasion.

The meeting between the British Deputy High Commission and the Himachal Pradesh government was a positive step towards promoting trade and investment between the two regions. The focus on the handloom industry, the support for a trade delegation to the UK, and the openness to foreign investments in the liquor/wine sector are all promising signs of future cooperation. It is hoped that these discussions will lead to concrete opportunities for businesses and investors from both the UK and Himachal Pradesh.
