Education Minister Rohit Thakur, in a strongly worded statement, accused the state BJP of spreading misleading propaganda about Himachal Pradesh in other states for political gains. Thakur specifically called out former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for allegedly presenting distorted data to malign the Congress-led government’s achievements, jeopardizing the state’s interests.
Government Achievements in Two Years
Thakur highlighted the significant milestones of the Congress government in its two-year tenure, contrasting it with the BJP’s previous administration. He underscored that five out of ten poll guarantees have already been fulfilled, with others underway.
Key initiatives include:
Restoration of the Old Pension Scheme benefiting 1.36 lakh employees.
Rajiv Gandhi Start-up Yojana: A ₹680 crore program empowering youth with self-employment opportunities.
Introduction of English-medium education from the first grade to enhance educational quality.
In a bid to support the farming community, Thakur highlighted record-high support prices for fruits and timely payments to horticulturists, including ₹163 crore in dues inherited from the BJP regime. Subsidies for pesticides and fungicides, discontinued earlier, have been reinstated, and universal cartons for apple packaging have been welcomed by farmers.
The Congress government has prioritized education with the recruitment of 15,000 personnel in the education sector and several promotions to fill vacancies. These steps are aimed at driving qualitative improvements under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s leadership.
Rohit Thakur praised the ₹4,500 crore relief package provided to victims of last year’s natural disasters while criticizing the central government for offering “false assurances” instead of tangible aid. On environmental conservation, Himachal is making strides in becoming a green energy state, focusing on solar energy production.
The state government has introduced unprecedented social security measures, including a law to support 6,000 destitute children and revenue Lok Adalats resolving 2.25 lakh pending cases. Himachal is also the first state to introduce support prices for milk, with competitive rates for both cow’s and buffalo’s milk. Additionally, women above 18 years now receive a pension of ₹1,500 per month.
The Education Minister urged BJP leaders to present truthful data about Himachal Pradesh in other states and to acknowledge the Congress government’s progressive initiatives. He called on the opposition to adopt a constructive approach for the state’s development rather than indulging in baseless criticism.
Thakur reiterated the government’s commitment to comprehensive development, focusing on green energy, youth empowerment, and social welfare.
