India Clinches Dominant Victory in Dharamshala Test, Secures Series Win 4-1 Over England
Dharamsala (Arvind Sharma) 9/3/24
On the 9th of March at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, the Indian cricket team delivered a master class in Test cricket by defeating England comprehensively by an innings and 64 runs, securing a 4-1 series win. This victory not only underscored India’s prowess on the home ground but also extended their unparalleled record of consecutive test series wins at home.
In a ceremonious presentation on Saturday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah handed over the trophy to the victorious captain Rohit Sharma. Alongside celebrating the triumph, Shah took to Twitter to announce the initiation of the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ for Senior Men. This innovative program, starting from the 2022-23 season, aims to bolster financial growth and stability among India’s cricketers. It introduces an additional reward structure over the standard match fee for Test matches, promising INR 15 lakhs per match. Furthermore, players participating in more than 50% of matches in a season are set to receive an extra ₹30 lakh per match, while those playing over 75% will be rewarded with ₹45 lakh per match.
This series win adds to India’s impressive streak of not having lost a home series since the 2012-13 defeat to England under Alastair Cook’s leadership. Since then, India has amassed a record 17 consecutive series wins at home, surpassing the achievements of cricketing giants like Australia, the West Indies, and South Africa. Notable victories include triumphs over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, comprehensive wins against South Africa in the Freedom Trophy, and dominating performances against New Zealand and England in various series.
This era of dominance highlights India’s cricketing excellence, echoing the remarkable feats of Australia, who had previously set the benchmark with ten straight home series wins on two separate occasions, alongside their record of 16 consecutive Test match wins.
India’s continued success on home soil firmly establishes them as a formidable force in Test cricket, leading the way with the most consecutive series wins at home since February 2013. This achievement not only celebrates the team’s outstanding performance but also solidifies India’s position as a cricketing powerhouse in the history of the sport.
