Indian Hockey Team Players Offer Prayers at Sri Harmandir Sahib After Winning Olympic Bronze Medal – Honored by SGPC President Advocate Dhami

After securing a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, members of the Indian hockey team paid their respects at Sri Harmandir Sahib today. The team was honored at the Information Centre of Sri Darbar Sahib by the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami. He presented the players with golden models of Sri Harmandir Sahib, religious books, and siropao (robes of honor) as a token of respect.

During the event, Advocate Dhami expressed pride in the contributions of Punjabi players to the Indian hockey team’s success. He mentioned that whenever Punjabi players have been part of the team, it has led to significant achievements, including the recent bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Advocate Dhami congratulated the players and offered prayers for their future success. He emphasized that the players from Punjab have revived the rich history of hockey in the state.

Advocate Dhami also addressed the youth, encouraging them to draw inspiration from the Punjabi players in the national hockey team and to actively participate in sports. He assured that the SGPC has always supported and will continue to encourage players who bring pride to Punjab and the Sikh community.

Special mention was made of the turbaned Sikh player, Jarmanpreet Singh, who was praised for maintaining his Sikh identity while excelling in sports. Advocate Dhami urged Sikh families to encourage their children to retain their cultural identity while pursuing their dreams.

Speaking to the media, the captain of the Indian hockey team, Harmanpreet Singh, expressed his gratitude for being able to offer prayers at Sri Harmandir Sahib with his teammates. He attributed the team’s success to the blessings of Guru Sahib and prayed for even better performances in the future. He also thanked the SGPC for the honor and respect bestowed upon the team.

Several SGPC members, including Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Secretary Pratap Singh, and others, were present during the event. The players who paid their respects included Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Hardik Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Jugraj Singh. Coaches and family members of the players also accompanied them.
