IPL : Dharamsala Match , Punjab Kings eliminated from playoff as Royal Challengers Bangalore Registered fourth straight victory in tournament
241/7 the highest T20 score ever at Dharamsala
Dharamsala (Arvind Sharma ) 10/5/24
The Punjab Kings were officially eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoff race after a decisive 60-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Dharamshala on Wednesday. This loss marked the Kings’ exit as they can now only achieve a maximum of 12 points by the end of the league stage, insufficient to advance due to other teams’ standings.
In what turned out to be a critical match for both teams, Punjab Kings, upon winning the toss, chose to field first. This decision seemed to backfire as RCB’s Virat Kohli, capitalizing on two early reprieves, blazed his way to a spectacular 92 off just 47 balls. Rajat Patidar supported well with a solid 55, helping RCB to set a daunting total of 241/7, the highest T20 score recorded at the venue.
Despite Rilee Rossouw’s aggressive 61, the Kings crumbled, losing wickets consistently and ultimately falling short by a significant margin.
The win was RCB’s fourth consecutive triumph, keeping them in the playoff hunt with ten points, though they still require several outcomes to favor them in the remaining matches.
This game not only underscored Kohli’s pivotal role in RCB’s lineup but also highlighted the challenges Punjab Kings faced throughout the tournament, culminating in their premature departure from playoff contention.
