Kangra District to Enhance Voter Experience with 33 Model Polling Booths for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Dharamsala (Arvind sharma ) 14/4/24

In preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kangra district is set to enhance voter engagement by establishing 33 model polling booths. This initiative, spearheaded by Election Officer cum  Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, aims to motivate a higher voter turnout by improving the polling experience.

He said that each model polling station will feature comprehensive facilities, including proper electricity, drinking water, and accessibility ramps to ensure inclusivity. Specifically, Jwalamukhi, Dehra, and Jaswan Pragpur will each host three model polling stations, and  two such  stations allocated to other assembly constituencies  within the district.

A notable aspect of this initiative is the operational management of these stations, with 29 polling stations in the district  to be managed entirely by women, eight by persons with disabilities, and the Dari polling station  in Dharamshala shall  specifically be  manned by youth. This approach not only highlights the district’s commitment to inclusive electoral processes but also empowers diverse groups within the community.

In addition to physical improvements, the district is also adopting digital tools to uphold electoral integrity. The Election Commission of India’s mobile app, C Vigil, allows citizens to report any violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The app promises that complaints will be addressed within 100 minutes, ensuring swift action and transparency.

Furthermore, the Excise Department has been directed to monitor and report daily on the sale and illegal activities related to liquor throughout the district. This includes rigorous checks at designated checkpoints to prevent any misuse during the election period.

By integrating advanced facilities and stringent monitoring systems, Kangra district is set to provide a conducive and fair voting environment.
