Chandigarh, October 14:

In its relentless efforts to create more job opportunities for the youth of the state, the Punjab Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has granted approval to fill 106 positions in the Clerk Cadre within the Department of General Administration at the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh.

This decision was reached during a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by the Chief Minister at the Punjab Civil Secretariat-I.

A spokesperson from the Chief Minister’s office revealed that the Council of Ministers has given the green light to fill 106 posts of the Clerk Cadre, including 69 revived positions, within the Department of General Administration at the Punjab Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh. The successful recruitment of these positions will ensure the efficient functioning of the Punjab Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh, and will contribute to the well-being of the people by providing essential services. Additionally, this move will create employment opportunities for the youth, enabling them to play an active role in the state’s social and economic development.

Mechanism for Expedited Construction of Medical Colleges Approved

The Cabinet has also approved the establishment of an efficient mechanism for expediting the construction of upcoming medical colleges in SAS Nagar (Mohali), Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Malerkotla, and Sangrur. These medical colleges and hospitals are intended to transform Punjab into a hub for medical education in the country, ultimately benefiting the state’s residents. This initiative will ensure that the construction work proceeds within a specified timeframe, making quality healthcare services accessible to the public at affordable rates.

New Service Rules for the Department of Legal and Legislative Affairs

The Cabinet has granted its consent for the formulation of “The Department of Legal and Legislative Affairs (Group ‘B) Service Rules, 2023.” These rules will streamline the recruitment process in the department and contribute to its smooth day-to-day operation, enhancing its overall efficiency.

Extension of Services for Veterinary Pharmacists

To enhance healthcare services for livestock owners, the Cabinet has approved the extension of services for 481 Veterinary Pharmacists working in 582 Veterinary hospitals across the state as service providers for one year, from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. This decision aligns with the government’s commitment to delivering top-notch animal health services through the Department of Animal Husbandry. Previously, the government had merged 582 Civil Veterinary Hospitals, along with the sanctioned posts of Rural Veterinary Officers, under the management of Zila Parishad, which falls under the Rural Development and Panchayats Department, into the Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Dairy Development Department.

Premature Release of Convicts

The Cabinet has also given its approval for sending the cases of five prisoners for the premature release of life convicts currently incarcerated in state jails. Additionally, four other cases have been approved for rejection. Following the Cabinet’s decision, these special remission and premature release cases will be submitted to the Punjab Governor for consideration, as stipulated under Article 161 of the Indian Constitution.

Restructuring of the Printing and Stationery Department

The Cabinet has reviewed a previous decision to restructure the Department of the Printing and Stationery department. This restructuring plan includes the abolition of surplus positions and the revival of necessary ones, which is expected to reduce the financial burden on the state exchequer and enhance the department’s efficiency and effectiveness.

Upgrade of the Post of Assistant Controller (Finance and Audit)

To further streamline the functioning of the Chief Election Officer, Punjab, the Cabinet has approved the upgrade of the post of Assistant Controller (Finance and Audit) to Deputy Controller (Finance and Audit). This move is aimed at addressing new challenges and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Chief Electoral Office.
