Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that Kurukshetra, the sacred land of the Bhagavad Gita, will be transformed into a clean and beautiful city, following the example of Prayagraj. To achieve this goal, the city will be divided into 18 sectors based on the suggestion of Gita scholar Swami Gyananand, and efforts will be intensified to clean the city completely before November 27. The Chief Minister himself will participate in the cleanliness drive, emphasizing the importance of public participation, including contributions from social and religious organizations, youth, women, and citizens, to establish Kurukshetra as a global example of cleanliness.
Speaking at an event organized by the Kurukshetra Development Board at the Gita Gyan Sansthanam auditorium, CM Saini encouraged community collaboration to make the upcoming International Gita Mahotsav (scheduled from November 28 to December 15) a grand and memorable celebration. The event was attended by prominent saints and spiritual leaders, including Gita scholar Swami Gyananand, Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Shaswatanand Maharaj, Swami Bansipuri Maharaj, Paramhans Gyaneshwar Maharaj, Swami Hariom Parivajak, and Swami Satpal Maharaj, who were honored with shawls by the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the overwhelming suggestions from more than 25 social and religious organizations to enhance the festival’s arrangements. He urged the representatives of these organizations to work in unison with the government and administration to ensure the festival’s success. Recalling the historical significance of Kurukshetra, Saini highlighted that 5,161 years ago, Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on this very land, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision led to organizing Gita Mahotsavs to spread the sacred teachings worldwide. Thanks to efforts initiated by former CM and Union Minister Manohar Lal, the Gita Jayanti gained international recognition in 2016, with Mahotsavs celebrated in Mauritius, England, Canada, Australia, and Sri Lanka.
The Chief Minister assured that the government will ensure ample budgetary support for the festival while also emphasizing the need for active community involvement. Kurukshetra will witness a special cleanliness campaign covering all its 48 Kos and 182 pilgrimage sites, with events such as Deepdan (lamp offerings), cultural programs, and Gita recitations. The administrative framework for the festival, including the cleanliness drive, will be monitored by the Deputy Commissioner. Social and religious organizations will play a pivotal role in these efforts.
The Chief Minister confirmed that he would personally engage in the Kurukshetra cleanliness campaign before November 27, ensuring collective efforts to establish the city as a shining example of cleanliness and sanctity. This campaign will also serve as preparation for the International Gita Mahotsav, showcasing the spiritual and cultural heritage of Kurukshetra to the world.
