Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, YSM, VSM Takes Over Command of Army Training Command

Chandigarh, India – December 1, 2023 – Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh assumed command as the 24th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Shimla-based Army Training Command (ARTRAC) on December 1, 2023. He succeeded Lieutenant General Surinder Singh Mahal, who superannuated on November 30, 2023.

Experienced and Distinguished Leader

Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh is a seasoned military officer with extensive experience in various command and staff appointments. He is an alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned into the 19th Madras Regiment on December 20, 1986.

Command Experience

The General Officer has held numerous command positions throughout his career, including commanding a battalion in an intense counterinsurgency environment in Jammu and Kashmir, an infantry brigade at the Line of Control, an infantry division as part of a Strike Corps, and a corps deployed along the Line of Control in counterinsurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Staff Appointments and Instructor Roles

Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh has also served in various prestigious staff appointments in Corps and Commands along the Western Front and in the counterinsurgency operations environment. He has also been an instructor at the Indian Military Academy and the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan.

Education and Training

The General Officer has attended numerous prestigious courses, including the Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command Course, and the National Defence College in Thailand.

Current Position and Responsibilities

In his current position as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ARTRAC, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh is responsible for shaping and training the Indian Army to make responsive and adaptive soldiers in line with evolving doctrines, concepts, and technologies.

Awards and Decorations

For his exemplary leadership and devotion to duty towards the Nation, the General Officer was decorated with the Yudh Seva Medal in 2015 and the Vishist Seva Medal in 2019.
