Meet Hair Takes Oath in Lok Sabha, Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighters and Farmers!

Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair, elected Member of Parliament from Sangrur constituency and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), took oath as a Lok Sabha member today. His swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Mann, his parents, and wife at the Parliament House. Meet Hair took the oath in Punjabi, his mother tongue, and paid homage to the freedom fighters, farmers, and soldiers with slogans of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Aged 35, Meet Hair won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat in this election, defeating his nearest rival Sukhpal Singh Khaira of the Congress by a margin of 1,72,560 votes. This was his first Lok Sabha election, having previously served as MLA from Barnala assembly constituency in 2017 and 2022. Before entering politics, he completed his education in Mechanical Engineering from Swami Vivekanand Institute of Engineering and Technology, Banur, and was preparing for civil services when he joined Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal’s movements, eventually becoming a primary member of AAP and later serving as the Youth Wing President. Meet Hair, known for his work in sports, youth services, water resources, mining, higher education, language, school education, administrative reforms, environment, science and technology, printing, and stationery departments, also excels as a cricketer and badminton player, showing keen interest in environmental conservation, social work, promotion of Punjabi language, and pet care.
