Metro and RRTS Expansion Plans Set to Transform Haryana’s Connectivity Landscape: Central Minister Manohar Lal Leads the Way

In a significant move towards improving public transport infrastructure in Haryana, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, emphasized the government’s commitment to providing metro rail and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) services to the people of the state. This development comes as part of the broader effort by the central and state governments to enhance connectivity and modernize the transport network in Haryana, particularly in areas adjacent to Delhi.

The minister outlined a series of studies and proposals aimed at expanding the metro rail network and introducing new RRTS lines across Haryana. One of the primary objectives is to conduct a detailed feasibility study on connecting Gurugram’s Palam Vihar with Delhi Airport through two separate metro lines. This will not only strengthen the link between the two bustling areas but also offer a faster, more efficient travel option for commuters.

Another key project under consideration is the extension of the metro line from Bahadurgarh to Asauda. Additionally, plans are in place to explore the extension of metro connectivity from Ballabgarh to Palwal and from Gurugram’s Sector 9 to AIIMS in Badsa. Furthermore, the connection from Delhi’s Dhansa to AIIMS Badsa will also be studied. These proposed extensions will play a vital role in creating a comprehensive transport network across Haryana, making travel easier and more convenient for the state’s residents.

The Union Minister also discussed the study of extending the RRTS line from Sarai Kale Khan to Panipat, with the possibility of further stretching it to Karnal. This expansion is seen as a crucial step towards improving long-distance regional connectivity, allowing for faster and more efficient transit between Haryana’s key cities and the national capital region. Another ambitious proposal is the extension of the RRTS line from Sarai Kale Khan to Dharuhera, with plans to eventually extend it to Bawal and Rajasthan’s Shahjahanpur. This regional connectivity will create a seamless transport corridor across multiple states, boosting both economic activity and accessibility.

One of the major announcements made by the central minister was the exploration of possibilities for establishing an RRTS line between Gurugram and Faridabad. Initially, the feasibility of a metro line between the two cities was being considered; however, due to various constraints, the government is now leaning towards implementing the RRTS, which is expected to be more practical and beneficial. This shift in focus from metro rail to RRTS demonstrates the government’s adaptability and its determination to provide the best possible solution for the region’s growing transportation needs.

Another project that was highlighted during the meeting was the proposed line connecting Delhi’s Palam Airport with Gurugram, Faridabad, and ultimately reaching Jewar Airport. This ambitious plan is currently under study, and if implemented, will significantly reduce travel time between these critical nodes, benefitting both domestic and international travelers.

In addition to the RRTS plans, there was also a detailed discussion on the proposed metro line from Gurugram’s Sector 56 to Panchgaon. This project will be fully funded by the Haryana government, and once the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is finalized, the central ministry has committed to providing approval within 15 days. This swift turnaround reflects the government’s urgency in moving these projects forward and its commitment to transforming the transport infrastructure in Haryana.

Today’s meeting, which took place between Haryana’s Chief Minister Naib Singh and Union Minister Manohar Lal, marks a crucial step in advancing Haryana’s transport network. The meeting was attended by several key officials, including the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary V Umashankar, Chief Principal Advisor for Urban Development D S Dhesi, Managing Director of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Chander Shekhar Khare, Additional Chief Secretary for the Town and Country Planning Department Arun Kumar Gupta, and Media Advisor to the Chief Minister Rajeev Jaitly. Senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and other central agencies were also present, underscoring the collaborative effort being undertaken to drive these initiatives forward.

The projects discussed in today’s meeting highlight the double engine government’s dedication to improving transportation in Haryana. By integrating advanced metro rail and RRTS services, the state is poised to become a hub of modern, efficient public transport, bringing immense benefits to residents and businesses alike. As these studies and proposals move closer to implementation, the people of Haryana can look forward to a future where travel is faster, smoother, and more connected.

The government’s commitment to this cause reflects the broader vision of creating a state-of-the-art transport network that supports the region’s economic growth, boosts job opportunities, and enhances the overall quality of life for its citizens. With the support of the central government, Haryana is set to lead the way in regional connectivity, making it a key player in India’s ongoing infrastructural transformation.
