Himachal Pradesh: Monsoon rains cause landslide near Pandoh, threatening to close Chandigarh-Manali NH
Mandi, Himachal Pradesh: A landslide occurred near Pandoh on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH) on Monday night due to heavy monsoon rains. The landslide has caused large cracks to appear on the road, raising concerns about its safety.
The landslide occurred near the 4-mile mark of the NH, where a subsidence had been reported a few days ago. The subsidence had already caused one lane of the highway to be closed, and the landslide has further deteriorated the situation.
If the highway is forced to close completely, it will cause major inconvenience to commuters, especially those traveling to and from Kullu and Manali. The closure will also affect local residents of Pandoh and surrounding areas, who rely on the highway for daily travel.
The Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) is currently assessing the damage and working to repair the road. However, given the ongoing monsoon rains, there is a risk of further landslides in the area.
