Ban on trekking in all mountain passes above three thousand meters: District Magistrate

 District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Dr. Nipun Jindal, has issued an order under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, banning trekking in all mountain passes above three thousand meters till further orders.

 Dr. Jindal said that In view of the trekking accidents occurring in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts, these orders have been issued in the Kangra district for the safety of the general public and trekkers.

According to the information provided by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) At least three trekkers, out of a group of 13, died following heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh in the last week of October , in  the Kinnaur district of the state. In another accident two West Bengal trekkers died of extreme weather conditions while 14 others have been rescued after being stranded for several days in Lahaul Spiti’s   mountains of Himachal in September this year.

D C Kangra  said that legal action under Section 51-60 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 would be taken against the violators of these orders.
