Former Minister and a former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Nagrota Bagwan, Himachal Pradesh Gurmukh Singh Bali died at AIIMS Delhi in the early morning hours of October 30, 2021. He was 67. He was a powerful congress leader of the lower  area of Himachal .

born on 27 July 1954 at Kangra Gurmukh Singh Bali was a diploma holder in Mechanical Engineering.. He was the Transport, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Technical Education Minister in Himachal Pradesh Cabinet.

He is the founder president of Himachal Nagrik Sudhar Sabha. He was Vice Chairman and later Chairman of the Himachal Social Bodies Federation. He was the Convener of the Indian National Congress Vichar Manch from 1990 to 1997. He was the President of the Congress Seva Dal from 1995 to 1998. He was also the Joint Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee from 1993 to 1998.

He was elected to Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in 1998 and was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2012 from Nagrota Bagwan assembly constituency. He was appointed as the Cabinet Minister for Transport on 6 March 2003. He lost to Arun Kumar from BJP in 2017 Assembly elections.

His son and AICC secretary RS Bali confirmed this sad news on social media and  said, “with a very sad heart, I have to inform you that my father and your dear Shri GS Bali ji are no longer . Last night he breathed his last at AIIMS in Delhi. My father always used to say, whether GS Bali is in the world or not, he will always be in the hearts of his supporters. His ideals and guidance will always remain in our hearts.”

Leader of opposition in the State Assembly Mukesh Agnihotri ,and  former minister Sudhir Sharma expressed grief at Bali's demise.

According to family sources the body of the late congress leader shall be  flown to Dharamsala on Saturday evening and the last rites will be performed  in Chamunda Dham near Dharamsala on Sunday.
