Chandigarh, 28 October 2021 (Kulbir Singh Kalsi):  NSS volunteers of Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary Model School, Sector-27-A Chandigarh took part in the rally under the guidance of programme officer, Mrs. Meenu Sood, to make people aware of the plastic ban and make a plastic-free city. They explained to the passers-by the adverse effects of non-biodegradable material on animals, plants, marine species, and human beings. The Principal, Dr Seema Biji flagged off the rally after giving an inspiring speech to students on anti plastic. Then they headed towards Sector- 27 market and interacted earnestly with the vendors, customers and owners of grocery stores, telling them about the harmful effects of plastic.

During the 1.5 km rally, they distributed paper bags to the public and shopkeepers to be aware of ‘Refuse-Reuse-Recycle Plastic’ and explained to people the need for environmental protection. The students displayed banners and placards emphasising on the need for a collective endeavour to eradicate the plastic bags usage in the city. Instead of plastic bags, people must use bags made of cloth, paper and jute.

On the occasion, the counsellor Mr. Davinder Singh Babla appreciated the efforts made by the school and said that the plastic was a threat to the coming generations. He asked students not to use plastic and made them pledge to be aware of their parents and neighbours not to use plastic bags in their houses.
