Newly elected Tibetan parliamentarians’ in-exile took oath of office

Mr Dawa Tsering was sworn in earlier this morning  as the pro-tem Speaker of the 17th Tibetan Parliament in Exile at a swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected MPs . The ceremony was held today at Dharamsala, the headquarters of Tibetan government in exile.

 

Mr Dawa Tsering was administered the  oath of office by Chief Justice Commissioner Sonam Norbu Dagpo.

 

Then the newly elected Tibetan parliamentarians’ in-exile took oath of office today in front of the interim speaker.  

 

All the proceedings are kept indoors and the  media was not allowed to cover the oath ceremony due to covid-19 protocol.

 As per the tibetan official , the members are also expected to elect speaker and deputy speaker in a day or so. Dolma Tsering and Sonam Temphel are contesting for the election of speaker whereas four candidates, Namgyal Dolkar, Yudon Aukatsang, Migyur Dorjee and Karma Gelek are participating in the race of deputy speaker.

 

In light of prevailing restrictions to curb the spread of Covid, the swearing-in ceremony was attended by only a select group of dignitaries including the Chief Justice Commissioner Sonam Norbu Dagpo, new pro-tem Speaker Dawa Tsering, Justice Commissioners Karma Dadul and Tenzin Lungtokand  and Secretary Tashi Gyatso Shadrong of the Supreme Justice Commission
