In a significant move towards establishing Haryana as a global center for education, Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini has announced a series of transformative measures aimed at overhauling the state’s education system and revitalizing government schools. Chairing a high-level meeting with officials from the primary, school, and higher education departments, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for ensuring quality education aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP). He directed that student-teacher ratios be maintained as per national guidelines, and new strategies are being implemented to ensure no school faces a shortage of teachers in the upcoming academic session.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Education Minister Shri Mahipal Dhanda, the Chief Minister reviewed departmental progress and issued strict instructions to ensure all arrangements are completed before the new academic session. He stressed the importance of rationalizing teacher postings to address discrepancies in resource allocation. Despite there being no shortage of teachers in Haryana, Shri Saini highlighted the need for optimal deployment according to student numbers.
The Chief Minister urged officials to instill public confidence in government schools so that more parents choose them for their children’s education. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing quality education to every child and proposed integrating lessons from the Bhagavad Gita into the curriculum for students up to class eight, aiming to instill cultural values alongside academic knowledge.
In addition to academics, Shri Saini emphasized making sports and cleanliness mandatory in schools to promote student well-being and vitality. The Chief Minister also directed skill development initiatives for teachers to equip them with modern teaching methods. Furthermore, infrastructure improvements such as ensuring clean drinking water, functional toilets, and proper sanitation were given high priority.
The Chief Minister highlighted the success of Model Sanskriti Schools, affiliated with the CBSE board, where students are receiving English-medium instruction in mathematics and science. With increasing demand for admissions in these institutions, he directed that their numbers be increased at the block level.
Shri Saini underscored the importance of timely project completion, instructing that every task be completed within set deadlines. He warned against unnecessary delays and directed the Chief Secretary to authorize XEN-level officials from other departments to handle tender-related processes for the education department’s engineering wing. Contractors failing to meet deadlines would face strict actions.
Further emphasizing education tracking, the Chief Minister directed that every student’s academic journey be monitored beyond Class 12, even if they pursue higher education outside Haryana. This measure ensures no child is deprived of their fundamental right to education.
In his vision to modernize education, Shri Saini outlined the importance of adopting AI-driven advancements and transforming educational practices. He insisted that all officials and employees treat their responsibilities with utmost seriousness and maintain thorough knowledge during review meetings. The Chief Minister reiterated that inefficiency at any level would not be tolerated.
To improve competitive exam preparation facilities, the Chief Minister instructed the higher education department to draft plans for utilizing smart classrooms in every college, providing rural students access to modern learning tools. He also stressed the need for expediting the completion of college buildings under construction and ensuring temporary facilities do not disrupt students’ learning experiences. Solar panels are to be installed on college buildings, and essential amenities like boundary walls, clean water, and toilet facilities are to be maintained continually.
A significant announcement was made regarding the establishment of a large public library in Panchkula to provide quality reading resources, eliminating the need for students to travel to Chandigarh. Public libraries will also be set up in every college and will remain open after school hours to facilitate students’ learning.
Education Minister Shri Mahipal Dhanda emphasized setting short-term and long-term goals for the complete implementation of the NEP, focusing on providing quality learning materials and integrating foreign language instruction to enhance students’ employability. He announced that discussions with the French Embassy were underway to introduce French language courses in schools.
In a follow-up on digital learning, 22 colleges have already established smart classrooms, and 83 laboratories have been set up across 48 government colleges. Multi-disciplinary teaching concepts, as outlined in the NEP, have been implemented to enhance learning.
Shri Dhanda expressed determination to transform every school to match the model set by the exemplary Sarthak School in Panchkula. He underscored the importance of timely project execution and emphasized that any shortcomings would invite strict action.
The meeting highlighted progress made in implementing NEP norms, with standards already being fully adopted up to Class 3, and expansion planned to cover up to Class 7 this year. Curriculum changes and distribution of new textbooks are underway.
The review meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Vivek Joshi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary for Higher Education Shri Vineet Garg, School Education Principal Secretary Shri Pankaj Agarwal, and Deputy Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Yashpal Yadav, marked a decisive step in Haryana’s journey to becoming a global education leader.
