In a strategic move directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police has orchestrated a comprehensive security plan for Republic Day, deploying over 20,000 police personnel across the state. This initiative aims to ensure foolproof law and order, guaranteeing peaceful celebrations on this national occasion.

Governor of Punjab, Banwarilal Purohit, is scheduled to unfurl the National Flag and preside over a state-level Republic Day function in Patiala. Simultaneously, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will oversee the celebrations in Ludhiana.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters, Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, revealed that Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, is personally overseeing security arrangements for Republic Day. Special DGP Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, has been appointed as the nodal officer to ensure meticulous security at all venues.

Gill emphasized the foolproof nature of the arrangements, with senior police officers of the rank of Spl DGP/ADGP/IGP/DIG stationed in various districts to monitor security personally. Gazetted Officers and Station House Officers (SHOs) will remain in the field until the conclusion of the Republic Day event, with additional forces deployed in sensitive areas.

DGP Punjab has issued orders for extensive vehicle checks and scrutiny of suspicious individuals throughout the state. Plans to seal inter-state, inter-district, and inter-city boundaries are underway.

The IGP urged the citizens of Punjab to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police, emphasizing the use of the 112 helpline number.

Furthermore, CPs/SSPs have been instructed to conduct cordon and search operations (CASO) at and around transportation hubs like Railway Stations and Bus Stands, scrutinizing vulnerable locations such as markets, government buildings, and religious places.
