Pakistan Elections: PTI Frontrunner, Rejects Coalition Talks, Aims for Solo Government

The National Assembly of Pakistan, which comprises 336 seats, mandates a simple majority of 169 seats to form a government. This total includes seats reserved for women and minorities. Gohar Khan, the President of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf), stated that they are not in contact with either PPP (Pakistan People’s Party) or PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz). He claimed that PTI is poised to win 150 National Assembly seats and is capable of securing the necessary count to form a government at the central level. He further emphasized that PTI does not intend to form a coalition government with PPP and PML-N and plans on establishing their government in both the center and Punjab.

The required number of seats to gain a simple majority in Pakistan’s National Assembly is 169 out of the total 336 seats.

The PTI, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has refused to ally with the aforementioned parties. They believe they can form the federal government independently. The party, with the support of independent candidates, has secured victories in 55 of the 139 National Assembly seats that have been officially declared by the election commission, despite significant delays in the announcement of Pakistan Elections results. Allegations of rigging during the election and counting process have also surfaced. Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N has won 43 seats, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s PPP has secured 35 seats.
Gohar Khan has announced that PTI has a clear lead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and intends to form a government there as well. According to him, PTI will remain active in the parliament and fulfill its role. He reassured that all independent candidates are PTI’s and in spite of the concerns over possible defections and horse-trading, they will not join any other party against the party directives.
