Parliament Disrupted as Opposition Protests Over Mahakumbh Stampede Tragedy

The second day of the Budget Session in Parliament witnessed continuous disruptions as opposition MPs raised slogans against the government over multiple issues, particularly the Mahakumbh stampede incident. The chaos led to repeated interruptions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Addressing the disorder in the Lower House, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla criticized the opposition, stating that the people of India did not elect their representatives to create disruptions, break tables, or indulge in sloganeering, but to engage in meaningful discussions and debates. During the Question Hour, he directly questioned the opposition MPs, asking whether they had been chosen by the citizens to obstruct House proceedings instead of fulfilling their legislative duties.

Simultaneously, the Rajya Sabha also saw protests, with opposition party MPs staging a walkout over the Mahakumbh tragedy. The stampede took place during the second Shahi Snan on the occasion of Mouni Amavasya, resulting in the loss of at least 30 lives and leaving around 60 others injured. The opposition has been demanding accountability from the government over the mishap, blaming mismanagement for the unfortunate incident.
