Total 112 medical graduates join Indian Armed Forces

Captain Devashish Sharma , Armed Forces Medical College, Pune One hundred and twelve medical graduates of the 58th batch of Armed Forces Medical College , Pune were commissioned into the Armed Forces in a glittering ceremony held at Kirti Chakra Parade Ground on April 25, 2024.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Lieutenant General Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps. DGAFMS reviews the commissioning parade. Medical Cadet (now Lieutenant) Sushil Kumar Singh commanded the parade.

Congratulating the newly appointed officers , the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services in his address said that the officers should serve the country and the Armed Forces with full dedication. He wished the newly appointed officers a bright future.

Cadets of the 58th batch of AFMC performed exceptionally well in the MUHS Winter 2023 examinations and a total of one hundred and forty seven cadets including five cadets from friendly foreign countries graduated. Of the one hundred and twelve cadets appointed to the Armed Forces Medical Services, eighty-seven are Gentleman Cadets and twenty-five are Lady Cadets. Of these, eighty -eight have been appointed to the Army, ten to the Navy and fourteen to the Air Force.

In recognition of the exemplary academic achievements of the cadets, the Academic Awards Presentation Ceremony was conducted after the Commissioning Ceremony. The ‘President’s Gold Medal’ and the ‘Kalinga Trophy’ are two of the most prestigious awards of the college. This year the ‘President’s Gold Medal’ was awarded to Flying Officer Ayush Jaiswal and the ‘Kalinga Trophy’ was awarded to Surgeon Sub Lieutenant Bani Kaur.

Armed Services Medical College, Pune is included among the top five medical colleges in the country. Globally recognized for providing quality medical education and healthcare services , AFMC was awarded the President’s Award by Hon’ble President Smt. Draupadi Murmu on December 01, 2023 for 75 glorious years of service to the nation. It was also awarded the Chief of Defense Staff Unit Citation by General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) on March 18, 2024.

The participants of this prestigious event included senior serving officers, veterans, faculty officers, medical and nursing cadets, parents and families of commissioned cadets.

A spectacular passing out parade ceremony at AFMC was held under the patronage of Lieutenant General Narendra Kotwal, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director and Commandant and Major General Giriraj Singh, Dean and Deputy Commandant, AFMC.
