Chandigarh, June 19– The elections for the post of President and Councilors in 18 Municipal Councils and 28 Municipalities of Haryana were held peacefully. 70.4 per cent polling was recorded till 8 pm. Counting of votes will now take place on June 22. Haryana State Election Commissioner, Sh. Dhanpat Singh has congratulated all the employees and officers engaged in successfully conducting the voting.
Sh. Dhanpat Singh informed that there are total 18,39,455 voters in 18 municipal councils and 28 municipalities. Till 8 pm, 12,95,508 voters cast their vote, which is 70.4 percent of the total voter turnout. At some polling stations, voters were queuing up to cast their votes even at night.
Sh. Dhanpat Singh informed that polling was peaceful in the entire state, no untoward incident was reported anywhere. In some places, there was a defect in the EVM, but it was immediately resolved. Wherever the polling is over, the polling staff has deposited the EVMs. The EVMs will be stored in the strongroom. The counting of votes will begin on June 22. Polling agents, police personnel and other employees engaged in the polling performed their duties well.
