Power Outage Plunges Villages in Darkness in Noorpurbedi Area
In a sudden turn of events, three separate grids supplying electricity in the Noorpurbedi area experienced a blackout in the wee hours of the night, leading to an outage lasting over four hours. This unexpected disruption left all 138 villages in the Noorpurbedi block engulfed in darkness throughout the night, creating an emergency-like situation.
The three grids established in the Noorpurbedi, Bajrur, and Nalhoti regions receive power supply from the 132 kV substation in Sri Anandpur Sahib. From there, electricity is distributed to all villages in the Noorpurbedi area through feeders. Around 12:45 AM, the power supply from all three grids suddenly ceased, prompting Powercom officials to initiate patrols and search for faults.
Due to a storm, a dozen electricity poles were damaged, and two transformer poles collapsed, causing a prolonged disruption in power supply to several villages in the area. Despite efforts, many villages continued to face power outages, exacerbating the challenges faced by residents dealing with water scarcity issues.
The Noorpurbedi area lacks any alternative routes for electricity supply. Typically, when faults occur in the 66 kV line, power supply to all 138 villages is affected for about three to four hours. The region relies on a single route for electricity supply from Sri Anandpur Sahib to Noorpurbedi, passing through the Satluj River, unlike other areas that have multiple routes to address such situations and restore power supply through alternative routes during emergencies.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of the power infrastructure in the region and the need for proactive measures to prevent such disruptions in the future. Residents are hopeful that the necessary repairs and precautions will be taken to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply, especially during adverse weather conditions.
