Prime Minister Narendra Modi Highlights Education, Employment, and Economic Transformation in Post-Budget Webinar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address during a post-Budget webinar on employment, emphasized that the 2025 Union Budget is a critical stepping stone towards building a more resilient workforce and driving India’s economic growth. The Prime Minister underscored that the country’s education system is undergoing a massive transformation, one that aligns with the demands and opportunities of the 21st century. According to PM Modi, this budget prioritizes investments across multiple sectors, including infrastructure, industries, people, economy, and innovation. He urged stakeholders to continue investing in key areas such as capacity building and talent nurturing, which are essential for the next phase of development. These sectors, he noted, form the foundation for both national and organizational progress.

PM Modi made it clear that the vision for India’s development is rooted in three pillars: education, skill, and healthcare. He pointed out that the country’s education system, after decades of evolution, is now on the cusp of a major transformation. Highlighting various government initiatives, the Prime Minister drew attention to the National Education Policy, the expansion of IITs, and the integration of technology into the educational framework. He also spoke about the government’s efforts to utilize artificial intelligence to improve learning outcomes, making India’s education system more accessible and aligned with the needs of the modern world. The digitization of textbooks, along with the availability of learning resources in 22 Indian languages, is a significant step toward ensuring inclusive education.

The Prime Minister also provided an update on the government’s commitment to skill development. Since 2014, over three crore youth have undergone skill training, with an additional focus on upgrading 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and setting up five Centres of Excellence to improve training standards. This initiative, he mentioned, aims to equip the youth with the necessary skills that meet the demands of industries across the globe. PM Modi emphasized that with the assistance of global experts, India is working towards ensuring that its youth can compete at an international level.

In his speech, PM Modi stressed the vital role of industry and academia in the skill development process. He called on both sectors to collaborate, ensuring that the youth are provided with the right opportunities to adapt to a rapidly evolving job market. In particular, he highlighted the PM-Internship Scheme, a new initiative designed to offer youth exposure to real-world challenges and practical skills. The scheme aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs, with the hope of generating significant industry participation at every level.

PM Modi also turned his attention to the healthcare sector, where the budget has earmarked funding for the addition of 10,000 new medical seats and a target to add 75,000 more seats over the next five years. These measures, he explained, are in line with the government’s vision of making healthcare accessible to every corner of the country. The Prime Minister also praised the expansion of telemedicine services, which have now been rolled out to all Primary Health Centres, making medical consultations more accessible, especially in rural areas. Furthermore, he highlighted the establishment of daycare cancer centers and the development of digital healthcare infrastructure, which aims to deliver quality healthcare services to even the most remote areas. These initiatives, PM Modi noted, will have a transformative impact on the lives of citizens, creating new opportunities in the healthcare industry.

The Prime Minister was optimistic that the government’s focus on building a robust healthcare and education framework, in tandem with the focus on employment generation, will create numerous job opportunities for the youth. He urged all stakeholders to act swiftly to ensure that the benefits of these initiatives reach as many people as possible. Emphasizing the importance of quick and efficient implementation, PM Modi noted that investments in the economy have been guided by a futuristic vision, one that focuses on long-term sustainability and growth.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister acknowledged that by 2047, India’s urban population is expected to surge to around 90 crore people, which will necessitate planned urbanization. He unveiled an initiative to create a Rs 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund, which will focus on governance, infrastructure, and financial sustainability. This fund, he added, will also serve to attract private investment into urban development projects. PM Modi emphasized that Indian cities will soon be recognized globally for their sustainable urban mobility solutions, digital integration, and climate resilience initiatives. He urged the private sector, particularly those in the real estate and industrial sectors, to prioritize planned urbanization to meet the demands of a growing population.

In his speech, PM Modi also touched upon the establishment of a National Gene Bank to preserve India’s plant genetic resources. This initiative, he explained, is essential to ensuring food security for future generations. He urged various sectors and institutes to expand these efforts, particularly in the face of increasing environmental challenges.

Finally, the Prime Minister discussed the remarkable growth India has experienced over the past decade. According to the IMF’s projections, India’s economy grew by 66 percent from 2015 to 2025, reaching a milestone of a USD 3.8 trillion economy. This growth, he noted, surpassed the growth rates of many other major economies, signaling that India is well on its way to becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. PM Modi reiterated the importance of continuing to make the right investments in the right sectors to maintain this growth trajectory.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged that the success of these initiatives depends largely on effective implementation. He praised the government for breaking the tradition of working in silos, with the introduction of both pre-budget consultations and post-budget discussions aimed at improving collaboration with stakeholders. This inclusive approach, he said, represents the spirit of ‘Jan-Bhagidari’, which is central to the government’s vision of ensuring that the benefits of these transformative policies reach every citizen. He expressed his hope that the discussions during the webinar would play a pivotal role in fulfilling the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
