Priyanka Gandhi Criticizes BJP’s Neglect During Disaster, Vows Welfare Initiatives in Kullu and Mandi Campaigns

Kullu/Mandi:Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi launched an energetic campaign in Kullu and Mandi districts, advocating for party candidate Vikramaditya Singh. During her roadshow and public meetings, she accused the BJP-led central government of neglecting Himachal Pradesh during natural disasters due to the state being under Congress rule.

Gandhi highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s indifference to Himachal Pradesh despite calling it his home. She pointed out that Modi did not visit the state during its time of need, nor did the central government provide any financial assistance to the disaster-affected areas. She asserted that the central government prioritizes aid for BJP-ruled states, neglecting those under opposition control. She praised the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, for standing by the people during crises and providing necessary assistance.

In her speeches, Gandhi criticized the BJP’s attempts to undermine the democratically elected Congress government by buying off MLAs. She accused the BJP of accumulating immense wealth through unethical means, including accepting donations from controversial companies linked to fatalities and structural failures, such as the Gujarat bridge collapse. Gandhi contrasted this with Congress’s commitment to public service, emphasizing that despite BJP’s wealth and influence, the public’s will remains paramount in a democracy.

Highlighting the financial mismanagement by the BJP, Gandhi claimed that the Modi government has prioritized the interests of billionaires over the common people. She noted that while the government waived off loans worth ₹16 lakh crore for industrialists, it failed to provide adequate financial support for public welfare schemes, such as the old pension scheme. She criticized the central government for its policies that adversely affected small businesses and the tourism industry in Himachal Pradesh, particularly through measures like demonetization and GST imposition, which hindered economic recovery post-COVID.

Gandhi also addressed the plight of apple orchardists in Himachal Pradesh, accusing the central government of reducing import duties on apples and handing over cold storage facilities to industrialist friends, resulting in reduced prices for local produce. She promised that a future Congress government would rectify these issues and support the agricultural sector more robustly.

On employment, Gandhi criticized the Agniveer Yojana, arguing that it leaves youth unemployed after four years without pensions or financial support in case of martyrdom. She pledged that a Congress-led central government would abolish the Agniveer Yojana and restore more secure employment policies, including the One Rank-One Pension scheme previously implemented by Congress.

Gandhi outlined several welfare initiatives that a Congress government would undertake if elected at the center. These include providing women with a monthly pension of ₹8500 and an annual stipend of ₹1 lakh, filling 30 lakh vacant government positions with a 50% reservation for women, doubling the honorarium for Anganwadi and Asha workers, and ensuring farmers’ rights to a legally guaranteed minimum support price (MSP). Additionally, she promised timely compensation for crop damage, the formation of a commission for farmers’ loan waivers, and the abolition of CST on agricultural equipment.

She also committed to expanding the scope of MNREGA to urban areas, increasing MNREGA wages to ₹400, and implementing an apprenticeship program for graduates with a monthly allowance of ₹8500. Gandhi assured that the Congress government would provide free health insurance worth ₹25 lakh nationwide, following the model implemented in Rajasthan.

In her call to action, Priyanka Gandhi urged the voters of Kullu and Mandi to support Vikramaditya Singh, assuring that he would serve with full dedication as their MP. She appealed to the public to reject BJP’s divisive tactics and vote for a party that prioritizes public welfare and development. The large turnout at her roadshow and public meetings reflected significant support for her message and the Congress party’s agenda.
