Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, commenced her election campaign for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly polls in Jabalpur district on Monday. During a public gathering, she unveiled five guarantees for the state’s people, highlighting her commitment to their welfare.
Addressing the crowd, Ms. Gandhi announced that every woman in Madhya Pradesh would receive a monthly aid of ₹1,500. Additionally, each household would be entitled to an LPG gas cylinder priced at ₹500. Moreover, she pledged to provide 100 units of free electricity and an additional 200 units at half the regular cost. Furthermore, she promised to waive farmers’ loans and implement the old pension scheme within the state.
Ms. Gandhi emphasized the integrity of her promises, stating, “We have come to the banks of Maa Narmada; we will not lie.” Taking aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), she criticized their failure to fulfill past commitments and their reliance on rhetoric. Comparing their empty promises to those made in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, she urged them to shift their focus from talk to action.
The Congress leader pointed to the progress and development achieved in Congress-ruled states like Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh, reinforcing her party’s commitment to fulfilling their pledges. She also lamented the BJP’s use of monetary influence to undermine the mandate of the people, referencing their previous attempts to topple the Congress government through horse-trading.
