Priyanka Gandhi Slams BJP: Accuses Modi of Prioritizing Power and Wealth Over People
Una/Hamirpur – On the second day of her campaign in Himachal Pradesh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. Speaking at a rally in Gagret, Una district, she began her speech with chants praising Chintpurni Mata and Lord Shiva. Gandhi accused the BJP of being solely focused on power and wealth. She claimed that Modi and Shah tried to topple the elected state government using financial power and accused Modi of waiving off the debts of his billionaire friends while neglecting farmers’ loan waivers.
Priyanka addressed another election rally in Kutlehar constituency and held a roadshow in Bhota and Barsar markets in Barsar constituency, gathering massive support. She appealed for votes for Lok Sabha candidate Satpal Raizada and Assembly candidates Rakesh Kalia, Vivek Sharma, and Subhash Dhatwalia. Gandhi alleged that the BJP is still attempting to destabilize the Himachal government but credited the steadfastness and unity of Congress leaders for their continued governance. She emphasized that the BJP’s truth was exposed during disaster management and efforts to topple the government. According to her, Modi uses religion for political gains but does not perform religious duties sincerely, showing no genuine respect for the people.
Gandhi accused the BJP of being the wealthiest party in the world over the last ten years through coercive donations from large companies. She criticized the expenditure on by-elections while ignoring disaster relief, pointing out that the Modi government has misled the public for a decade and failed to declare the Himachal disaster a national calamity. Despite financial constraints, the state government resettled 22,000 affected families from its own funds without any aid from the Modi administration. Additionally, she highlighted that the Himachal government provided OPS to 136,000 employees and a pension of Rs 1,500 to women over 18 years old. Himachal became the first state to offer MSP on milk, showcasing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu’s connection with the people, especially during disasters.
Gandhi criticized Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur for being absent from his constituency, focusing instead on mingling with billionaires in Delhi. She noted that Modi similarly neglects his constituency in Varanasi. She contrasted the current leadership with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who personally addressed citizens’ issues despite criticism. Gandhi condemned the BJP’s strategy of spending crores to buy Congress legislators and topple governments, declaring that democracy is diminishing under Modi’s rule. She cited 70 million unemployed in the country and criticized schemes like Agniveer for darkening youth futures, pledging to abolish Agniveer if Congress returns to power.
Furthermore, she promised to raise MGNREGA wages to Rs 400 per day and introduce an urban MGNREGA. Small businesses would be strengthened under Congress leadership. Gandhi urged the people of Himachal to vote wisely on June 1, sending a message nationwide that Devbhoomi rejects money-driven politics. She praised the state’s residents for their integrity and modesty, asserting that the Congress government has been diligently serving the public despite BJP’s political maneuvers and indifference during disasters.
