Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has sharply criticized the central government for failing to acknowledge the devastating landslide that hit Wayanad, a district in Kerala represented by her brother Rahul Gandhi. The landslide, which occurred earlier this month, claimed the lives of several people and left many others displaced. Priyanka expressed her disappointment that despite the scale of the tragedy, the central government had not declared the affected areas as disaster zones, which would have provided them with the necessary financial and logistical support.
Priyanka’s criticism centers on the government’s neglect of the disaster-hit regions and its failure to offer adequate relief measures. She accused the ruling government of being indifferent to the suffering of the victims and the local communities, many of whom are still reeling from the destruction. By not declaring Wayanad as a disaster zone, the government has effectively hindered the flow of funds and resources needed for rehabilitation efforts, according to Priyanka.
