Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian has directed all Chief Agriculture Officers (CAOs) to submit biweekly progress reports to ensure effective implementation of state and central agricultural schemes. The initiative aims to enhance monitoring, address challenges promptly, and improve support for farmers.
During meetings held at Kisan Bhawan, Khudian reviewed ongoing schemes across districts, emphasizing the importance of meeting targets for seed, pesticide, and fertilizer sampling under a quality control drive. The department had set goals of 6,100 samples for seeds, 4,800 for pesticides, and 3,700 for fertilizers. To date, 5,082 seed samples, 2,867 pesticide samples, and 2,473 fertilizer samples have been collected.
Legal action has been initiated against dealers and firms whose samples failed quality tests, with 141 seed samples, 81 pesticide samples, and 78 fertilizer samples found substandard or misbranded. Khudian stressed transparency and accountability, urging CAOs to ensure efficient fund utilization and submit utilization certificates before the financial year ends.
