Punjab and Haryana High Court gets 1st woman acting Chief Justice
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has got its first woman acting Chief Justice. Justice Meenakshi I Mehta has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the High Court with effect from October 14, 2023.
Justice Meenakshi I Mehta has been appointed as the first woman acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, with effect from October 14, 2023. She will succeed Justice Ravi Shanker Jha, who is retiring on that day.
Justice Mehta was born in Hisar, Haryana, in 1964. She enrolled as an advocate in 1987 and was appointed as a Sub Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate in Haryana the same year. She was elevated as a District and Sessions Judge in 2013 and as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2019.
Justice Mehta has a distinguished career as a judge. She has been known for her fair and impartial judgments. She has also been a strong advocate for women’s rights and social justice.
