Punjab Assembly Bypolls: BJP Fields Strong Candidates and Star Campaigners Ready for November Showdown

The upcoming bypolls in Punjab’s four assembly seats—Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Barnala—were triggered after their respective MLAs won seats in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. In preparation, the BJP has announced candidates for three of these seats: Ravikaran Singh Kahlon for Dera Baba Nanak, Kewal Singh Dhillon for Barnala, and Manpreet Singh Badal for Gidderbaha. The candidate for the Chabbewal seat is yet to be confirmed.

The Gidderbaha seat became vacant following the election of Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring to the Lok Sabha from Ludhiana. For the bypolls, BJP has mobilized an influential team of 40 prominent campaigners, including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Union ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Ravneet Singh Bittu. Noteworthy BJP figures such as national general secretary Tarun Chugh, Punjab unit president Sunil Jakhar, and Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal are also among the listed star campaigners. Additionally, prominent leaders like Anurag Thakur, Smriti Irani, former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, and well-known party figures from the entertainment world, Manoj Tiwari and Ravi Kishan, will rally alongside BJP leaders Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Pathankot MLA Ashwani Sharma to boost support.

The bypolls for these four Punjab assembly seats are scheduled for November 13, with the results to be announced on November 23. The last date for candidates to submit their nominations is October 25, followed by the scrutiny of nomination papers on October 28, and the final date for withdrawal of candidatures is set for October 30.
