In a departure from the tradition of aerial surveys, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann personally inspected the flood-affected areas today, immersing himself in the relief operations. Dressed in a white Kurta Pyjama, the Chief Minister, accompanied by senior state government officials and district administrators, waded into waterlogged fields to oversee the ongoing relief efforts along the Ghaggar river.
Remaining within the waterlogged fields, Bhagwant Mann closely monitored the operations, keeping a watchful eye on the movement of JCB machines. He directed the officers to remain present in the field and ensure that the affected people were not facing any difficulties.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, the Chief Minister noted that even advanced countries like the USA and Spain were grappling with flood-related challenges. He attributed the current state of affairs to incessant rains in the hilly regions and Punjab. However, Bhagwant Mann emphasized his government’s unwavering commitment to assisting the affected people during this grave crisis, vowing to leave no stone unturned in their rescue and rehabilitation.
Stressing the paramount importance of preserving human life, the Chief Minister urged residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas to evacuate to safe locations to ensure their safety. Bhagwant Mann emphasized that it was the government’s duty to prevent any inconvenience faced by the people.
Addressing concerns about politicizing the issue, the Chief Minister called upon all Punjabis to unite in combating this natural disaster. He highlighted that unlike his predecessors, he was not conducting mere cosmetic assessments from a helicopter but was on the ground, witnessing the real conditions firsthand. Bhagwant Mann acknowledged the alarming nature of the situation but assured the public that the state government was making every possible effort to minimize the loss of life and property.
In response to the extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall, the Chief Minister announced that a special survey would be conducted to assess losses in terms of crops, houses, and other affected areas. He issued immediate instructions to Deputy Commissioners to carry out the survey in rain-affected regions, prioritizing damage to crops, residences, livestock, and other essential aspects. Bhagwant Mann reassured the people that the government was fully committed to safeguarding their interests amidst nature’s fury.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister called for calm, urging the public not to panic as the state government was closely monitoring the situation arising from the incessant rains. He emphasized that this was a natural calamity that could be effectively combated with the collective support and cooperation of all citizens. Bhagwant Mann affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the people of Punjab, assuring them that no effort would be spared in rescuing them from this crisis. He requested the public to trust in the government’s concerted efforts to restore normalcy.
Bhagwant Mann personally reviewed the situation minute by minute, covering every corner of the state. While acknowledging that the heavy downpour was beyond any individual’s control, he reiterated that every possible measure was being taken to ensure the public’s well-being and minimize inconvenience. The Chief Minister highlighted the active involvement of Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, and officers in their respective areas, providing assistance to those in need during this critical time.
