Punjab Chief Minister Boosts Police Efficiency with 410 Hi-Tech Vehicles
In a significant move towards enhancing law enforcement capabilities, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has unveiled 410 new hi-tech vehicles for the Punjab Police. Valued at a staggering 426 crore rupees, this allocation underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering the state’s law and order system.
Hi-Tech Fleet Enhancement
The fleet comprises 274 Mahindra Scorpios, 41 Isuzu Highlanders, and 71 Kia Karenz vehicles dedicated for Police Control Room (PCR) operations and Dial-112 services. Additionally, Tata Tiago Electric Vehicles (EVs) have been introduced to ensure the safety of women. This infusion of modern vehicles is poised to streamline police operations and expedite response times, marking a significant milestone in Punjab Police’s history.
Renewed Focus on Infrastructure
To complement the vehicle upgrade, the Punjab government is investing substantially in police infrastructure. A total of 1195 aging vehicles, surpassing 15 years in service, are being replaced with new units. This multi-phase initiative involves the procurement of 508 vehicles in the first phase, costing Rs 94.15 crore, followed by the acquisition of 851 vehicles at Rs 75.42 crore in the subsequent phase for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Modernization Drive
Apart from fleet enhancement, the government is allocating Rs 426 crore for modernizing Punjab Police and fortifying its infrastructure. Notable endeavors include the establishment of two new police stations – Police Station Kartarpur Corridor and Police Station IT. Furthermore, funds have been earmarked for bolstering border security, with 81 Mahindra Scorpio vehicles designated for this purpose.
Strengthening Security Measures
To address emerging threats, the government has sanctioned Rs 80 crore for enhancing the counter-intelligence framework and Rs 30 crore for fortifying the cybercrime division. This strategic allocation aims to fortify internal security protocols and curb the proliferation of cybercrime incidents.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s initiative to augment Punjab Police’s operational capabilities with hi-tech vehicles underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to public safety and law enforcement. With significant investments in infrastructure and modernization, Punjab Police is poised to meet contemporary security challenges head-on, ensuring a safer environment for the citizens of Punjab.
