In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the educational landscape of Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann flagged off the first batch of 72 primary teachers who will undergo professional training in Finland. This momentous event, held in New Delhi on October 18, 2024, marks a historic commitment by the Punjab government to invest significantly in teachers, schools, and students, signifying the dawn of an educational revolution in the state.

Addressing a gathering of educators, dignitaries, and media personnel, CM Mann described the occasion as a pivotal moment for Punjab’s education system. “Today, we are not merely sending teachers to a different country; we are opening the doors to innovative pedagogical techniques and best practices that will fundamentally reshape education in Punjab,” he remarked. The Chief Minister emphasized that education is the backbone of society and that his government has been striving to enhance the education system to ensure high-quality learning for every child, irrespective of their background.

Finland, renowned globally for its effective and holistic education system, was chosen as the training ground for these teachers due to its emphasis on equality, teacher autonomy, and student-centered learning. CM Mann noted that the Finnish educational approach goes beyond the traditional curriculum; it cultivates creativity, innovation, and a lifelong love for learning among students. “The essence of Finnish education lies in its methodology and philosophy, which we aim to integrate into our own system,” he stated.

The Chief Minister emotionally connected with the teachers, referring to them as the “architects of the future,” responsible not only for shaping students’ minds but also their character. He expressed hope that the training would provide them with valuable insights into new teaching strategies, classroom management, and holistic approaches that prioritize student needs.

In addition to educational reforms, CM Mann addressed broader societal issues, pointing out that previous administrations neglected environmental concerns. He committed to implementing measures to rejuvenate natural resources and combat pollution, while also launching initiatives like the Sadak Surakhiya Force (SSF), which has significantly reduced road fatalities in the state.

In his remarks to the media following the event, Mann contrasted his government’s educational focus with the BJP’s approach, which he criticized for lacking emphasis on health and education. He affirmed that Punjab is pioneering mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) to assess student progress, a move he described as beneficial for the educational sector.
