Punjab CM Condemns BJP Leaders for Questioning Sikh Police Officer’s Patriotism

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has strongly condemned the recent remarks by BJP leaders questioning the patriotism of a Sikh police officer in West Bengal. He termed the statements as “unfortunate” and “discriminatory,” highlighting the community’s long history of sacrifice and service to the nation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, CM Mann expressed his disappointment with the BJP’s attempt to cast doubt on the credentials of a community renowned for its unwavering patriotism and nationalism. He emphasized the countless sacrifices made by Punjabis, particularly the Sikh community, in securing India’s freedom. He further acknowledged the immense contribution of Sikh farmers in ensuring the country’s food security.

CM Mann also underscored the bravery and dedication of Punjabi soldiers who continue to safeguard the nation’s borders. He expressed his deep disapproval of the BJP leaders branding a dutiful Sikh officer as “anti-national,” calling it a blatant insult to the entire Punjabi and Sikh community.

Drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, who advocated for fighting against injustice and oppression, CM Mann declared that such humiliation would not be tolerated. He demanded an apology from the BJP leadership for their “irresponsible, callous, and discriminatory” attitude.

Expressing solidarity with the Sikh officer, CM Mann affirmed that the entire state of Punjab stands firmly behind him for his exemplary service and dedication to duty.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions and sensitivities surrounding issues of identity and patriotism in India. CM Mann’s statement serves as a reminder of the rich history and contributions of the Sikh community, while also condemning attempts to undermine their loyalty and service to the nation.
