Chandigarh, December 24:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has strongly criticized the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government for providing stepmotherly treatment to farmers and ignoring their legitimate demands.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, CM Mann expressed his disappointment over the Union government’s lack of engagement with farmers. He highlighted that while the Prime Minister appears more focused on projecting himself as a ‘global leader’ by intervening in international conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war, the domestic concerns of farmers are being neglected.
CM Mann reminded the Prime Minister of the significant role played by Indian farmers in making the country self-reliant in food production. He pointed out that despite the farmers’ tireless efforts in using limited natural resources—such as fertile land and water—to ensure a stable food supply, the Union government continues to adopt a hostile approach towards them.
The Chief Minister urged the central government to set aside its haughty attitude and initiate a dialogue with the farmers who have been protesting for months. He stressed that a meaningful discussion is needed to address the grievances and demands of farmers, who have been struggling to have their voices heard.
CM Mann called for immediate attention to farmers’ issues, emphasizing that dialogue and resolution of their concerns should not be delayed further.
