February 4: Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s strong commitment to curbing crime, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed police officers to take full responsibility for major crimes occurring within their respective jurisdictions. In a high-level meeting with Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for proactive and effective law enforcement to maintain peace and order in the state.
Highlighting the significant role of Punjab Police, Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the force has a glorious legacy of safeguarding national unity, integrity, and sovereignty. He called upon officers to uphold this tradition by ensuring justice, strengthening communal harmony, and fostering a sense of security among the people. Stressing the importance of police reforms, the Chief Minister assured that new measures would be introduced to make the police force more efficient, responsive, and people-friendly. He reiterated that the government’s ultimate goal is to safeguard Punjab’s hard-earned peace through modernized policing and enhanced law enforcement strategies.
Taking a firm stand against crime, the Chief Minister asserted that individuals involved in unlawful activities must face strict consequences. He urged police officers to enhance intelligence gathering mechanisms and prioritize the swift dispensation of justice. Addressing the issue of drug menace, Bhagwant Singh Mann called for a statewide mass movement to eliminate drug trafficking. He encouraged village Panchayats to play an active role in combating this crisis and called for stringent action to dismantle the drug supply chain. The Chief Minister further stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy to raise awareness among school and college students about the dangers of substance abuse.
To intensify the crackdown on drug smugglers, Bhagwant Singh Mann instructed officials to seize the properties of those involved in drug trafficking. He emphasized that there should be no leniency in dealing with this issue and called for decisive action to protect future generations from the devastating effects of drugs. The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes, with the Chief Minister personally monitoring the progress of anti-drug operations on a daily basis. He also directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that high-profile criminals and drug kingpins are swiftly brought to justice.
In a strong warning against organized crime, the Chief Minister reiterated that gangsters would not be allowed to operate in Punjab. He called for stringent measures to dismantle criminal networks and ensure that those involved in organized crime face exemplary punishment. Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that law and order must be upheld at all costs and that anyone attempting to disrupt peace in the state should be dealt with strictly. The government is determined to eradicate gang violence, and the Chief Minister urged officers to implement a concrete action plan to curb petty crimes and larger criminal operations alike.
Addressing corruption within the police force, Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that rooting out dishonest officers is crucial to maintaining public trust. He called for the identification and strict action against corrupt individuals within the police department, stressing that such officers tarnish the reputation of an otherwise dedicated force. The government is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in policing to build a system that serves the people efficiently.
The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of fostering strong coordination between the police and the general public. He encouraged law enforcement agencies to engage with citizens to gain their support in crime prevention. Recalling Punjab Police’s commendable role in combating terrorism in the past, he urged officers to build on that legacy and work hand-in-hand with the people to ensure a safer and more prosperous Punjab.
Further strengthening law enforcement efforts, Bhagwant Singh Mann directed police officials to conduct surprise inspections within their jurisdictions. He clarified that these inspections should not be about fault-finding but rather about improving the overall law and order situation. The goal, he explained, is to enhance the efficiency of the Punjab Police and ensure the safety and well-being of every citizen. By implementing these robust measures, the state government aims to create an environment where crime is significantly reduced, and law enforcement remains a pillar of justice and security.
