Punjab Faces Renewed Heatwave as Rain Relief Fades: Yellow Alert Issued

In the past few days, most parts of Punjab, except for the metropolis of Jalandhar, experienced rainfall, providing a much-needed respite from the scorching heat. However, this relief is short-lived as temperatures are expected to rise again, bringing back the heat. According to the Meteorological Department’s Chandigarh center, a yellow alert has been issued for the next two days, predicting an increase in temperatures. This will likely bring discomfort to the residents once more, with the department warning of a potential heatwave.

Recent rainfall across North India brought down temperatures by 4-5 degrees Celsius, with neighboring areas of Jalandhar experiencing heavy showers. However, Jalandhar itself did not see significant rainfall. The cool air from the rain in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana provided temporary relief from the heat in Punjab, even ending the streak of heatwaves. But, as the weather changes, the temperature is expected to rise again. Today, being a holiday, the streets were relatively empty as people stayed indoors to avoid the heat.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for June 24 and 25, marking the first stage of the alert without immediate storm warnings, but indicating a significant rise in temperatures. This alert extends until Tuesday evening. Pre-monsoon showers had previously brought relief from the heat, but with the changing weather, experts warn that the sudden rise in temperature can be dangerous if precautions are not taken. People need to be more aware and cautious during this period.

Despite no rainfall in Jalandhar, the humidity in the air will make the heat more intense, similar to the surrounding cities. Carelessness in such conditions can lead to serious health issues. On Sunday, Faridkot was the hottest district in Punjab, with Jalandhar recording a maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28-29 degrees. Neighboring Balachaur recorded a maximum of 39 degrees, while Amritsar peaked at 41.8 degrees. These figures show a 1-2 degree difference between Jalandhar and its neighboring districts.

In summary, the temporary relief from the heat due to recent rainfall is coming to an end, and Punjab is gearing up for a return of high temperatures. With a yellow alert in place, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the upcoming heatwave.

### Repercussions and Recommendations
The rise in temperatures and the yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department indicate potential health risks due to heatwaves. Residents should stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and use cooling methods to prevent heat-related illnesses. The government and health departments should also prepare for an increase in heat-related health issues and ensure that public advisories are in place to guide citizens on how to stay safe.
