Punjab government intensifies monitoring of milk products to ensure quality sweets during festive season

The Punjab government has intensified its monitoring and inspection of production units, distribution networks, and retail outlets dealing with milk products to ensure the purity of sweets during the ongoing festive season.

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has deployed inter-district teams to carry out special checking drives across the state to combat adulteration and ensure safe and quality food products.

During the month of October alone, the FDA has seized 934 samples for analysis, including 43 samples of khoya, 97 khoya-based sweets, 92 samples of colored sweets, 27 samples of paneer, 112 samples of colored bakery items, 70 samples for checking adulteration in silver leaf, 104 samples of dry fruits, and 389 samples of various food items.

The FDA has also advised the public to be vigilant and report any suspected adulteration at any outlet. Stringent action will be taken against those found guilty of compromising quality standards.

Meanwhile, a huge cache of adulterated ghee, mustard oil, and refined oil was seized in Barnala district. In Amritsar district, the FDA team destroyed 337 kg of spurious khoya and 115 kg of Vanaspati, besides seizing 62 kg of SMP, which was being used as an adulterant. Teams also seized expired stock of pulses in SBS Nagar district.

The Punjab government is committed to ensuring that the people of the state can enjoy the festive season with safe and quality sweets.
