The Punjab Government is set to roll out a series of awareness camps focusing on women’s health, hygiene, and employment opportunities starting from December 2 in Malout, Sri Muktsar Sahib district. This initiative aims to empower women through vital health services and raise awareness about various welfare programs.
In a press conference held at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh, Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, highlighted that the state government is deeply committed to creating a safer environment for women and girls, as well as enhancing their employment opportunities. The upcoming awareness camps are an integral part of this broader effort.
The camps will offer free health check-ups, including screenings for breast, cervical, and oral cancer, blood pressure checks, diabetes testing, anemia assessments, and the distribution of essential medications. In addition, educational sessions will focus on critical health topics such as menstrual hygiene, contraceptive methods, family planning, and adolescent health.
Collaborating with various departments such as Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Rural Development, the government will also set up stalls to inform women about important schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, the 181 Women Helpline, and pension schemes.
Dr. Kaur also announced a state-level event in Faridkot on December 3 to commemorate the International Day of Divyang Persons, where distinguished individuals and organizations dedicated to their welfare will be honored. As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support Divyang persons, the Cabinet Minister revealed that Punjab Roadways and PRTC buses are providing a 50% fare concession, benefiting over 7.5 lakh users this year alone.
Additional announcements included a Rs 23.16 crore allocation under the SIPDA scheme to improve accessibility for Divyang persons in government buildings and the creation of 1,754 direct recruitment positions and 556 promotional posts for Divyang persons across various departments. The Punjab Government is also working on a TCHV center in Ludhiana to provide specialized education for visually impaired individuals.
Through these efforts, the Punjab Government is committed to the empowerment of women, children, the elderly, and Divyang persons, ensuring their active participation in society.
