Punjab Government Launches Monthly Online NRI Meets to Address Diaspora Grievances

Chandigarh, December 4: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is intensifying efforts to resolve the grievances of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) with the introduction of monthly online meetings. Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced this proactive initiative during the December “Online NRI Meet,” held at the Punjab Civil Secretariat-1.

The Minister revealed that these sessions will occur in the first week of every month, with the next meeting scheduled for January 6, 2025. This systematic approach underscores the state’s commitment to resolving the concerns of Punjabis living abroad efficiently and effectively.

December NRI Meet Resolves 85 Grievances
During the December session, 85 grievances from diaspora Punjabis were addressed. S. Dhaliwal issued on-the-spot instructions to civil and police officials for prompt action. The Minister highlighted that most complaints pertain to the Revenue and Police Departments, with about 20% of cases currently under judicial review.

District-Level Coordination for Swift Resolutions
To expedite grievance resolution, S. Dhaliwal emphasized that Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police across Punjab have been instructed to prioritize NRI complaints. He pointed out that district-level committees, chaired by Deputy Commissioners, play a pivotal role in coordinating efforts across departments to tackle NRI-related challenges.

  • Ajinder Singh, AIG, NRI Directorate

These officials reiterated their commitment to addressing diaspora grievances swiftly and ensuring their welfare.

Minister Dhaliwal stated that the government is dedicated to maintaining an open channel of communication with NRIs to safeguard their interests. The initiative reflects the administration’s resolve to enhance governance and strengthen ties with Punjabis across the globe.
