Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria Calls for Timely Completion of Central Projects, Vows to Resolve Issues with Central and State Governments
Chandigarh, August 12: In a crucial review meeting held at Punjab Raj Bhavan, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria, emphasized the importance of timely completion of Central projects across the state. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the National Highway Authority, Railway Department, Airport Authority of India, and BSNL, who presented progress reports on various ongoing projects in Punjab.
Governor Kataria underlined the necessity of ensuring that all Central projects in Punjab are completed without delay. He issued clear instructions to the officials, stating that any obstacles or issues encountered during the implementation of these projects must be immediately reported in writing. This proactive approach, he assured, would enable swift resolution of problems with the coordinated support of both the Central and State Governments.
To maintain momentum and ensure transparency, Governor Kataria announced that review meetings would be conducted every three months to assess the progress of all Central projects. In addition to these quarterly meetings, officials were instructed to keep the Governor’s office informed of ongoing developments through regular written updates. This structured oversight is intended to keep projects on track and address challenges before they become significant roadblocks.
One of the key issues discussed during the meeting was the persistent problem of heavy traffic in Chandigarh. The Governor expressed concern over this issue and sought solutions from the National Highway Authority. In response, the officials highlighted two major infrastructure projects—the construction of National Highways connecting Panchkula to Shimla and Majri to Baddi. They assured the Governor that these projects, once completed, would significantly reduce traffic congestion in Chandigarh by providing alternative routes for commuters.
Governor Kataria also emphasized the importance of enhancing connectivity to key tourist destinations. He proposed a new initiative to run the Jammu-Tawi train on a daily basis, underscoring the significance of cities like Udaipur, Chandigarh, and Jammu as major tourism hubs. The Governor’s proposal aims to facilitate smoother travel for tourists, thereby boosting the local economy and promoting cultural exchange.
In addition to discussing rail connectivity, the meeting also reviewed the progress of new railway stations and lines in Punjab. The Governor took a keen interest in the development of Amrit stations, urging officials to expedite these projects to improve regional connectivity.
The Airport Authority of India officials briefed the Governor on a significant upcoming project—a direct road connecting Chandigarh to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport. They revealed that this new road would reduce the distance from Chandigarh to the airport by 10 kilometers, offering a quicker and more convenient route for travelers. The Governor welcomed this development, recognizing its potential to enhance the accessibility of the airport and streamline travel for residents and visitors alike.
During the meeting, BSNL officials also provided updates on their ongoing projects in Punjab. The Governor acknowledged the vital role of telecommunications in driving development and ensuring that both urban and rural areas remain connected. He encouraged BSNL to continue expanding its network and services, particularly in underserved regions, to support the state’s overall growth.
The meeting concluded with a strong message from Governor Kataria about the importance of collaboration between Central and State Governments. He reiterated his commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that Punjab’s development projects are completed on time and to the highest standards. By addressing challenges head-on and fostering cooperation, the Governor aims to drive progress and prosperity in Punjab, benefiting its citizens and enhancing the state’s infrastructure and connectivity.
