Punjab Police and Central Agencies Bust Narco-Crime Nexus Operated by USA-Based Sarwan Singh; Three Arrested with 6 Pistols and 200 Grams of Heroin
In a joint operation with central agencies, the Punjab Police has successfully dismantled a narco-organized crime nexus led by USA-based smuggler Sarwan Singh alias Bhola Havelian. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure Punjab’s safety and security, the Amritsar Rural Police arrested three operatives from Ajnala. The Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, revealed that the arrested individuals have been identified as Karanjit Singh from Khalra in Tarn Taran, Akash Seth alias Raghu, and Sukhdeep Singh, both from Raja Sansi in Amritsar. The police confiscated six pistols, including five .30 bore Star pistols and one 9mm Glock, along with six live cartridges, ten magazines, 200 grams of heroin, and an electronic weighing machine. Sarwan Singh, who has a Rs 2 lakh reward on his arrest, is the brother of notorious drug smuggler Ranjeet alias Cheeta, who was arrested in May 2020 in connection with a 532-kg heroin haul case investigated by the NIA. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police learned that associates of Sarwan Singh had retrieved a consignment of weapons and were planning to deliver it. This led to a special police check by the CIA Staff in Ajnala, resulting in the arrest of the trio and the recovery of the weapons. On the disclosure of Akash alias Raghu, the police further seized 200 grams of heroin, six live cartridges, and an electronic weighing machine. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in direct contact with Sarwan Singh and were involved in the supply of weapons and heroin. SSP Amritsar Rural, Satinder Singh, shared that Akash alias Raghu’s cousin, Sanjam alias Mathi, who is currently in Amritsar Jail, had introduced him to Bhola Havelian. The police plan to bring Sanjam on a production warrant for further interrogation. The investigation is ongoing to establish the complete network of smugglers, dealers, and their buyers, with more arrests expected. A case FIR no. 122 dated 22-6-2024 has been registered under section 25 of the Arms Act, with sections 21 and 29 also added at Police Station Ajnala. This operation underscores the Punjab Police’s commitment to eradicating organized crime and drug smuggling from the state.
