Punjab Police Arrests Key Suspect Mukul Mishra in VHP Leader Vikas Bagga’s Murder Case, NIA Investigation Continues

Ludhiana, August 12: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to ensure Punjab’s safety and security under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Ludhiana, in collaboration with Ludhiana Commissionerate Police, successfully apprehended Mukul Mishra, a prime suspect in the murder case of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar, also known as Vikas Bagga. The case is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), further highlighting its seriousness.

The murder of Vikas Prabhakar, a prominent VHP leader from Nangal, had sent shockwaves through the community. On the evening of April 13, 2024, two unidentified assailants, one wearing a helmet and the other with his face covered by a muffler, shot Prabhakar dead at his shop on Railway Road in Nangal. The assailants arrived on a black scooty, which was later identified as the vehicle used in the crime.

The arrest of Mukul Mishra comes four months after the Punjab Police apprehended both assailants involved in the murder—Mandeep Kumar, alias Mangi, and Surinder Kumar, alias Rikka. The police had recovered two .32 bore pistols and the black scooty used in the crime, marking the first significant step in solving the case.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, praised the collaborative efforts and scientific investigative methods that led to Mukul Mishra’s capture. The CI Ludhiana shared crucial intelligence inputs with the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police, resulting in a joint operation that spanned across Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. The operation ultimately led to the arrest of Mukul Mishra, a resident of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Mukul Mishra played a critical role in facilitating the payment for the weapons used in Vikas Bagga’s murder. The financial trail uncovered during the investigation pointed to transactions conducted through Mishra’s bank account. This link was instrumental in identifying Mishra as a key suspect in the case.

Additionally, police teams have identified two more suspects based in UP, including the individual responsible for procuring the weapons. The identification of these suspects has expanded the scope of the investigation, as law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to track down and apprehend all individuals involved.

DGP Gaurav Yadav also disclosed that Mukul Mishra was wanted in another case registered under FIR No. 55 of 2024 at Police Station Division 2, Ludhiana. The charges in this case include section 379-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 of the Arms Act. Mishra’s involvement in multiple criminal activities highlights the complex and dangerous nature of his operations.

The arrest of Mukul Mishra marks a significant advancement in the investigation, but the work is far from over. The Punjab Police, in collaboration with other agencies, is intensifying its efforts to locate and arrest the remaining absconders involved in the case. The DGP assured that the police teams are actively pursuing all leads and will continue to work tirelessly until justice is served.

This arrest is part of a broader initiative by the Punjab government to maintain law and order in the state, as emphasized by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The Chief Minister has been clear in his directive to the Punjab Police to leave no stone unturned in their mission to make Punjab a safe and secure state for all its residents.

The successful capture of Mukul Mishra demonstrates the effectiveness of the coordinated efforts between various law enforcement agencies. It also sends a strong message to criminal elements that the Punjab government and its police force are fully committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those who threaten the peace and security of the state will be brought to justice.

As the investigation continues under the vigilant eye of the NIA, the Punjab Police remain steadfast in their resolve to complete the case with thoroughness and precision. The collaboration between state and central agencies is expected to yield further arrests and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
