Punjab Police Arrests Lakhbir Rode’s Associate Paramjit Singh Dhadi for Terrorism Activities
In a significant development in the ongoing anti-terrorism campaign directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has dismantled a terrorist recruitment, funding, and aiding module. The Punjab Police arrested Paramjit Singh, alias Punjab Singh, alias Dhadi, a close associate of Pakistan-based terrorist Lakhbir Rode, at Sri Guru Ram Das Airport in Amritsar, as announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Tuesday.
Paramjit Singh, a British citizen and founder member of the International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF), previously engaged in terror activities in Punjab during the early ’90s. After being arrested in 2003 and serving time for terrorist-related charges, he returned to the UK. Despite his criminal past, Paramjit continued his involvement with ISYF, acting as a motivator, recruiter, and fundraiser in the UK and other European countries.
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that Paramjit Dhadi’s name emerged in 2021 for his role in reorganizing ISYF cadre in Punjab, providing funds and militant hardware to disrupt peace. Following his suspected involvement in terror funding, a lookout circular (LOC) was issued, leading to his recent arrest.
This arrest marks a significant setback to the terror module attempting to disturb peace in the region. The police are actively investigating to expose the entire terrorist network. AIG SSOC Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann, shared that immigration authorities detained Paramjit Dhadi at Sri Guru Ram Das Airport while attempting to board a UK-bound plane. The arrest was made under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act, Arms Act, NDPS Act, and the Indian Penal Code.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Dhadi maintained regular contact with Lakhbir Singh Rode, frequently visiting Pakistan. On Rode’s instructions, he identified and recruited youth through social media for involvement in terrorist activities.
