In a significant breakthrough against narco-terrorism, Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has dismantled a Pakistan-ISI-backed terror module operated by USA-based individuals. The operation reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring safety under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, announced the arrest of two module members, Bagga Singh of Sirsa, Haryana, and Pushkaran Singh alias Sagar from Amarkot, Amritsar. Recovered items included a hand grenade and two sophisticated pistols with ammunition. This success follows the investigation into a grenade attack on the Gumtala Police Post in Amritsar earlier this month.
DGP Yadav disclosed that the arrested individuals were linked to Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passian and Sarwan Bhola, a notorious drug smuggler based in the USA. Investigations revealed that Sarwan Bhola, also wanted in a 532 kg heroin case with a ₹2 lakh bounty, was directing terror activities from abroad alongside Happy Passian. Bagga Singh, a relative of Sarwan Bhola, was reportedly trained for these activities and worked under the guidance of Harvinder Rinda.
The January 9 attack on the police post was claimed by the banned Khalistani organization BKI through social media. Following the attack, Punjab Police launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrests. Advanced investigative techniques are being employed to trace further links and uncover the module’s full extent. The recovery of weapons and explosives signifies the deep-rooted threat posed by such terror networks.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sukhminder Singh Mann of SSOC Amritsar stated that the investigation is ongoing to trace the module’s remaining members and establish connections to other crimes. The operation underscores Punjab Police’s resolve to dismantle such networks, ensuring a safer Punjab for its citizens.
With the arrest of these individuals and the recovery of lethal arms, Punjab Police continues its rigorous efforts to neutralize terror threats and safeguard the state’s peace and harmony.
